WATCH: Jaywalk at the DNC

Cannabis activists are calling for Democrats to end federal prohibition at the Democratic National Convention in Philly.

On Monday, two 51-foot joints were marched from City Hall to the Wells Fargo Center, and Philadelphia-based comedian and longtime activist Nikki Allen Poe was on hand to catch all the action.13663464_1279198778771615_2052583087_o

“With the national spotlight on the DNC in Philadelphia, we see this as a prime opportunity for our movement to shine and win the hearts and minds of people around the country,” Poe told HIGH TIMES. “The stigma of being a marijuana user is fading, and we are doing the best we can to normalize our culture and usher everyone out of the cannabis closet and into the streets for the world to see!”

On Tuesday, the Democratic Platform Drafting Committee approved a final draft of its 2016 platform, which included an amendment supporting states that choose to decriminalize marijuana and recognizing that marijuana laws have had “an unacceptable disparate impact, with arrest rates for marijuana possession among African Americans far outstripping arrest rates among whites, despite similar usage rates.” The committee reportedly passed the amendment unanimously, and the entire platform is expected be voted on today.

However, that does not mean the end of cannabis activism at the DNC, with a Cannabis Pride Parade planned for Thursday at 3 p.m.

“The Cannabis Pride March is the moment to celebrate progress and demonstrate for a future of real freedom,” the event’s Facebook Page explains. “Make a sign, roll up some doobies and march with us in the streets to celebrate how far we have come as a movement!”
